Daily Rhythm in the Kindergarten Class
Age 3 ½ to 6 years old

In the daily rhythm the morning’s pattern consists of two major “waves” of contraction and expansion. The kindergartens daily rhythm is as follows:

    • Creative Play – this allows expansion and the children breathe out
    • Tidying up
    • Circle time – this allows contraction and the children breathe in
    • Outdoor Play – allows expansion and the children breathe out
    • Story telling – allows contraction and the children breathe in

The rhythm soon becomes a habit, and very quickly these habits are established and the children literally “go with the flow”. This early experience of order and regularity is the seed for future self-discipline.

The Nairobi Waldorf School is a natural place for children to learn.

Weekly Rhythm

Monday
This is a day of cleaning up and the teachers iron the kindergarten items. The children come to learn to respect and care for their environment.

Tuesday
Painting with water colors allows the children to take pleasure in the easy movement of the brush, the flow and interaction of the colors. The children’s pleasure is in the doing and experience rather than in the result, their artistic sensitivity is developing in this way.

Wednesday
Modeling with beeswax, the children can experience themselves as a “creator” and naturally the principles of formation.

Thursday
Bread making - by assisting in making the bread the children discover mixing, kneading and spreading. They also meet technology and science in meaningful context e.g. the oven

Friday
Nature walk – the children visit the Arboretum park and learn to appreciate and understand their natural surroundings.

The opportunity for handwork and craft activities is offered within the creative play time.
